Module 3: Observing Implementation of the CA NGSS

This module will provide administrators an opportunity to incorporate their new understanding of the innovations (particularly, phenomenon, sense making and student discourse) of the NGSS and reflect on support for NGSS implementation at the site level through classroom observation. The goal is to provide administrators an opportunity to consider what it looks like as teachers and students engage in NGSS teaching and learning. Participants will be introduced to the NGSS Classroom Observation Tool and engage in deep discussions, applying the tool to four classroom videos. The tool focuses in on three key features that should be evident in an NGSS aligned classroom: (1) phenomenon-based instruction, (2) 3-dimensional sensemaking, and (3) student to student discourse.
